Excavation Services in Guelph and Surrounding Areas

Guelph Excavation Pros is a local excavation contractor that runs the whole dig with one crew, from teardown and utility locates to the last load of topsoil. We work for homeowners, builders and commercial property owners, and we have finished more than 500 jobs over 10+ years.

If you are searching for excavation services near me, our yard is in Guelph and our machines travel anywhere within about a 30-minute drive. That radius covers Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Puslinch and Milton, plus the hamlets in between.

The services below are grouped by the project you are planning, not by machine. Every card links to a full page with the process, materials, permits and typical costs, and every job is priced as a fixed written quote after a site visit.

Residential Excavation Services

Most residential digs fall into one of four project types. Find the group that matches your plan, then open the service page for the full detail.

Each service uses machines sized for the lot, from compact excavators that fit through a side-yard gate to full-size units for new home foundations.

Outdoor and Yard Projects

Backyard work is mostly about access and soil: getting a machine through the gate, protecting the lawn and deciding what stays and what gets hauled.

Removals and Clean-Ups

Every removal needs the right disposal route: concrete and asphalt go to recycling, clean soil to an approved fill site, and impacted material to a licensed receiver.

Rural Property Services

Country properties come with private septic, wells and long laneways, so the work and the permits differ from a city lot. Owners in Puslinch and rural Wellington County can also read our Puslinch excavation page for township rules.

Commercial and Civil Excavation Services

We also self-perform commercial and civil earthworks for general contractors, developers, institutions and property managers. The work runs on our own operators and trucks, priced from your drawings.

Our commercial excavation hub covers the prequalification documents we send with bids, unit-rate pricing, OPSS specifications and excess soil handling.

Not Sure Which Service You Need?

Start with the problem you can see, not the name of the service. The table matches common problems to the work that usually fixes them.

We confirm the real cause on a site visit before we quote, because the same symptom can have two different fixes.

Common problems and the excavation service that usually solves them

Water in the basement after heavy rainRegrading the lot so ground slopes away from the walls, or storm line repair if a downspout lead or lateral is broken

If your problem is not on the list, send a few photos and a short description. We will tell you which service fits, or tell you honestly if the job needs a different trade.

Jobs We Often Combine

Combining related jobs under one quote removes a second mobilization, a second round of locates and often a second inspection visit. These four pairings come up most often around Guelph.

  • Demolition plus a new foundation. We take down the old house, pull its footings and dig the new hole in one sequence, so the lot never sits open waiting for the next contractor.
  • Walkout plus retaining wall. A walkout cut almost always needs walls beside the stairwell or patio, and building them with the same machine avoids digging the slope twice.
  • Oil tank removal plus soil replacement. The tank comes out, impacted soil is dug to the limit confirmed by lab results, and the hole is backfilled with clean, compacted fill the same week.
  • Pool removal plus regrade. Fill is compacted in lifts of about 300 mm (12 in), then the yard is shaped to drain and topped with screened topsoil ready for sod.

One crew also means one schedule and one person to call. The operator who finishes the demolition is the same one who digs your footings, so nothing gets lost between trades.

Service Questions

Do you handle the permits?

We handle the permits and notices that belong to the excavation, and we tell you at the quote stage which ones you or your designer need to file. We request Ontario One Call locates on every job and arrange fill or site alteration permits where a municipality requires them.

Building permits for foundations, additions and walkouts are normally filed by the owner or designer because they need stamped drawings, and we dig to that approved set. Septic permits are filed under Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code with the installer's design.

Lots near the Speed or Eramosa rivers, wetlands or floodplains may also need a Grand River Conservation Authority permit before any digging starts.

Can one crew handle the job from demolition to final grade?

Yes. Our crew can take a project from demolition and locates through excavation, backfill, grading and topsoil without handing it to another excavator.

You get one schedule, one contact and one price, and there is no gap between trades where a dig sits open in the rain. If a specialist is needed, such as a structural engineer for underpinning, we coordinate with them directly.

Do you work for homeowners and contractors?

We work for both, and the quote format changes to suit each one. Homeowners get a fixed lump-sum price after a site visit, so the number on the quote is the number you pay unless the scope changes.

Builders and general contractors can choose a lump sum on their drawings or unit rates per cubic metre excavated, tonne of granular placed or metre of pipe laid. Undefined work, like an investigation dig, can be priced as time and materials.
